Getting passed Your past

Have you ever felt you were stuck where you are because of your past mistakes? Feeling like nothing will ever change for you because of the mistakes you have made? Do you feel that your past haunts you, continually reminding you of all your failures and those that have failed you? I know the feeling friend, I have been there myself which is why I want to take the time to share with you scripture that will help you ‘get passed your past’ and start living for the future with purpose as God intended us to live.

*Psalm 51:4-
Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight–That you may be found just when You speak And blameless when You judge.

Confess to yourself and God that you have sinned and fallen short of his glory and mercy.

Accept God’s Forgiveness
* Hebrews 8:12-  “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

Accept that God forgives us every time we truly repent and ask for forgiveness and God does not keep “tallies” of your wrong doings. Once God forgives you he remembers the sin no more.

Let it Go
*Isaiah 43:18- “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of the old.”

God does not remember your past sins that you have already asked for forgiveness for and you should not hold on to these things either.

Keep your eye on the Prize
*Philippians 3:13-14- Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Focus on moving forward and becoming a better You in Christ and reach towards the fulfillment of God’s will in your life.

Renew your Mind
*Psalm 51:10- Create in me a clean hear, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Ask the Lord to renew your mind and spirit that you will be cleansed and ready to move forward with a new attitude and outlook on life.

Remember you are Cleansed
*2 Peter 1:8-9- For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed for his old sins.

Don’t just ask God for forgiveness and to renew your mind but also remember that he has given these things to you. Accept you are cleansed and forgiven so that you will not be blinded by former things as you move forward.

Reflect on the Good
*Psalm 25:7- Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me. For Your goodness; sake, O Lord.

Reflect on the good things that have happened and the triumphs in your life even while you were struggling. Big or small there are always good things to be grateful for and to focus on in each situation.

Scripture on Lying

*Revelation 21:8- But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

*Proverbs 14:5- A faithful witness does not lie, But a false witness will utter lies.

*Proverbs 14:25- A true witness delivers souls, But a deceitful witness delivers lies.

*Proverbs 19:5- A false witness shall not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will not escape.

*Proverbs 19:9- A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will perish.

*Romans 3:4- Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written:
“That you may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.”

*John 8:44- You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

*Exodus 20:16- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”

*Proverbs 6:16-20- There are six things the Lord hates, Yes seven are an abomination to Him;  A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart the devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. My son, keep your father’s command, and do not forsake the law of your mother.

*Note: Pride is at the root of lying. As most will lie to be perceived in a better light by whomever they are speaking. In fact, Pride could be considered the root of all sin. Wanting to rely on our own mindset and understanding doing what we “feel” is right, instead of what God has shown us and instructed us to do.

What the Bible says about Conflict

* Proverbs 10:12- Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sin

Hot Tempered Heart
*Proverbs 15:18- A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention.

Perverse Heart
*Proverbs 16:28- A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.

Greedy Heart
*Proverbs 28:25- He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.

Angry Heart
*Proverbs 29:22-23- An angry man stirs up strife, And a furious man abounds in transgression. 23 A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.

Resolution by numbers
*Matthew 18:16- But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’

Need for Resolution
*Matthew 5:23-24- Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way.

Resolve Quickly
*Proverbs 5:25-26- Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

WARNING: Stinkin Thinkin on the rise

This subject always makes me think of the story of Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. If you have read this book you know that it is all about how everything went wrong that day for Alexander. He couldn’t seem to catch a break, no matter where he went or what he did things (out of his control) kept happening to him. Life can often feel this way in our day to day lives. It can feel extremely overwhelming and begin causing the onsets of “Stinkin Thinkin” it creeps in at first maybe only affecting us on a bad day then before we know it, we have completely been sucked in to its’ whole concept of “I stink, you stink, and life stinks”. I warn you this can become very dangerous and unhealthy for us to believe and give truth to in our lives.

When we start feeding the “Stinkin Thinkin” attitude we lose all interest in life and only see the negative side of each situation regardless if its beyond our control or not. In turn causing us to have a hard time seeing any positive or good in the life and the world around us. “Stinkin Thinkin” is highly contagious and can easily overtake our minds by continually being engaged in conversations with those who are what I like to call full time “stinkin thinkiners” (yes I just made that word up) it starts to seep into our thinking process and begin its destruction in our lives.

This is why today is the day you have to CHOSE to change. Change your thinking process and what you focus on in each situation. Apply truths from Gods word to each thought that tries to plant roots in your mind. Changing your thought process is possible. it does not happen overnight just as it did not happen overnight when your thoughts became all toxic. It’s a process that can be completed, ask God to help you through the journey and you will learn to live a life of truth and freedom, not of lies and bondage.

We should not be focusing on the past or dwelling on what could have been, asking ourselves What if.. questions. We are suppose to let go of the past and focus on our present and future remembering God’s plans are always good and praise him through the storm.

The bible says in Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

How are we going to see all the progress and positive changes going on in our lives by God if we are too busy gripping about the negatives and dwelling on the past hurt and pain. You may be thinking well that sounds easy for you to say.. well it is easy to say. However we all struggle in this area and it’s a process that never stops. It’s a constant struggle in my life currently and many of those I know. The world has become infected by “stinkin thinkin” and we have to fight to keep ourselves focused on the truth in God’s word.

Use scripture as if it were medicine or vitamins for your heart and soul, apply it to your life daily in order to help maintain a positive, free, and healthy balance in life. John 15:5 says “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.  The bible tells us that if we follow the wordly ways and not trust and abide in God’s word we will not produce the fruit in which he has designed us to produce. Toxic thoughts and behavior will cause us to produce “bad” fruit which become the vines and branches in our mind instead of God’s word , bad fruit poisons our perspective of life.

I encourage everyone to wake up each day and focus on God’s promises in His Word. Instead of waking up thinking I have to much to do, Its going to be a long rough day, I will never get everything done, how will I feed my family today, this stinks, life stinks all I do is work. Start your day off with biblical truths, speak life over your life, change your thought process and kick out the “stinkin thinkin”.

Here are a few bible references I like to use to speak life over my life.

Phillipians 4:13  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

– you probably do have a lot to accomplish in one day but God didn’t promise a work free life exempt from troubles but he promised strength to get through it.

Romans 8:37 “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. ”

– your plate is probably overflowing and there are probably situations you wish you didn’t have to deal with, maybe even situations that you feel are unable to be overcome. Those statements are stinking thinkin at its finest. God does NOT want you to worry he tells us we are MORE than conquerors through Him.

Matthew 6:25-27– Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; not about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

– bills are piling up, work is slow and you have no idea how you are going to make ends meet. Full force worry and in creeps, you guessed it..the “stinkin thinkin”. I urge you to stop the thought as soon as it starts and remember the Lord does not want us to worry of these things but to trust in Him to provide.

Nehemiah 8:10– Then he said to them ” Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

–  we often forget to be thankful for what we do have. The Lord does not want the day filled with sorrow and worry but with joy of knowing his promises to provide if we trust in Him. Our strength comes from knowing He is our provider and His promises are what drive us to keep focused.

Isaiah 61:7-8 “Instead of your shame you shall have double, honor, And Instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs.”

– Satan wants to remind us of our past. He wants us to feel like we are not good enough and to feel shameful in the presence of God and people but that is NOT what Gods word says. That is a direct lie from Satan that he wants to plant roots in our minds and infect our life with “stinkin thinkin”. Gods word says we will not be shamed but have double honor if we believe and trust in Him and that we will have everlasting joy.

We all need to stick together and stick to Gods Word to stop the roaring epidemic in the world today of “Stinkin Thinkin”. If we train our thoughts to focus on God’s truth and seek his guidance we can stop Satan from destroying our thought process with Stinking Thinkin and begin to live life freely and joyfully. John 8:31-32  Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Stop believing the lies of Satan and focus on the truth in Gods word so that you may live life abundantly. John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Is God telling you it is time for change? Is time for the stinkin thinkin blinders to come off and time to start living life with happiness and purpose? This is a change only we can choose to make for ourselves. This process doesn’t happen over night and it can be very difficult but if we ask God for His help he will guide us and change us as we seek Him. Don’t be discouraged along the way for we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us.

God’s Plan vs. Satan’s Plot

Have you ever heard people say “Why did God let this happen?  Why does God hate me? What have I done so wrong to deserve this? I am a good person, why does all these things keep happening to me?”

Lets start by defining the difference between a Plan for your life and a Plot against your life.

Plan- a detailed proposal for doing or achieving something

Plot- a plan made in secret to do something illegal or harmful

Friend you need to know that God is NOT behind the hurt, anger, suffering, sadness, loneliness, depression, illness, or any other negative feeling that is keeping you from enjoying life. John 8:44 says “..When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he a liar, and the Father of it.” This is Satan, he is the Father of all Lies! God is a Father of love, joy, protection, and eternal life. God has a specific plan for your life and has had one before you were born, a plan for your life so great that you and I could never imagine. Jeremiah 29:11-16 says this to us.. “For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to me and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart…” However, from the day you are born Satan begins forming his plot against you as a child of God, whom is chosen to prosper and grow, to be blessed beyond anything we can imagine; to live joyful and fulfilling lives. Satan does NOT want us living a life of joy and happiness and he certainly does NOT want us to fulfill our calling in the kingdom of God because that is one less soul he can “Steal” from the glory of our Father. Satan plots against us as he wants to destroy our lives it says so in John 10:10 “The thief (Satan) does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

It’s very easy to fall into a trap of one of Satan’s lies and deception he is very good at what he does and he studies us thoroughly to know our weaknesses so that his temptation and plot will work in his favor; causing us to feel discouraged and unworthy, but there is Hope in the faith of Jesus. 1 Peter 5:5-9 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” The bible tells us we will daily be tempted and that Satan searches for ways to deceive us and wreck havoc in our lives. James 4:7 says “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” If we are steadfast in prayer and our faith in God he will provide us the “ways out” of sin, temptation, and negative thinking all in which are direct attacks from the enemy to destroy us and our perception of life.

Often times we wonder why things happen in our lives; the good, the bad, and everything in between. Our perception on life is solely based on what we choose to believe and accept to be true in our lives. If we stay focused on God’s plan for our life, knowing his plans are always good and choose to have faith in his promises, accepting his grace and forgiveness; then we will live a life of joy. If we choose to believe the lies of Satan, follow worldly views, and chase plans made in the flesh we will come to find a life full of disappointment, hurt, loneliness, depression, lack of worth, sadness, and the list can go on and on. The bible teaches us that Jesus’ unconditional love, promises, and guidance is what we need to live prosperous and fulfilling lives, free from the bondage of Satan and his lies and deception.

Proverbs 19:21- “There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless it’s the Lord’s counsel(plans)–that will stand.”

This tells us not to chase the desires of the world and the plans we have made within ourselves as men and women of the flesh. But to chase God and his plan as his plans are what will become true. Remembering God’s plans are ALWAYS good!

Psalm 32:8-9- “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. 9 Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding; Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.”

God wants us to seek him to ask him to show us the way in all things. He wants us to know His word and promises and to believe in them. He does not want us “to be like the horse or like the mule” he wants willfully near to him in times of thanksgiving and times of need.

Ephesians 2:8-9– “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, so lest anyone should boast.”

Some people feel as if they must do “good works” to achieve God’s grace and salvation and many people believe what I like to call the ultimately lie from Satan and that is that they will never be good enough for God or that God is mad at them. This is a straight lie from Satan himself as Ephesians 2 tells us it is ONLY by grace we have been saved. Grace is a gift no one deserves but that is offered to everyone FREE of charge from God. All you must do is accept the gift and truly believe and have faith in Him. God’s Plan is to save us and to bless us abundantly when we seek him with our whole heart; Satan’s Plot is to make us believe we will never be good enough for God and that God is mad at us which keeps us from running to God and seeking him daily.

Hebrews 11:6- “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.”

Grasping on to God and his promises for your life comes with great reward. Having faith in Him and believing his word to be true will cause great change in our mindset, life, and perception. God’s plan is to bless us and reward us for seeking Him. Satan’s plot is to derail our faith, stop us from seeking, and to keep us in darkness destroying every aspect of our life and our perception of it.

Ephesians 6:12- “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

It is not man we are up against in this life it is much more. It’s the lies and deceit of Satan that is our true enemy. Satan will use circumstances, people, and objects to deceive us in to believing his lies and going astray from God. Like mentioned earlier, Satan studies us and knows our weaknesses and attacks us in the areas he knows he is most likely to succeed. Chopping down our faith in God one branch at a time and attempting to plant a new seed of deception in our minds that if we feed will overtake and become a massive tree of negativity. Poisoning our thoughts and branching out growing larger with each lie we believe from Satan. If we continue to feed this tree it will overtake our mind and leave no room for the “tree of life” blocking all the truths and promises we have in God. Satan’s plot is to chop down the tree of life in our hearts and minds; to replace it with a tree of deception, doubt, and destruction; paralyzing us from feeling God’s love. God’s plan for our life is to feed the tree of life, knowledge, and truth making its roots and branches so strong that no lie, no trouble, and no plot of Satan could even shake our tree let alone begin chopping it down one branch at a time to plant one of his own full of negativity and death.

I encourage you today to start taking notice to the attacks from Satan as he plot’s against you. For each negative thought, every untruth he whispers to you, every circumstance he puts before you to derail you from God’s plan  remember to call upon God with the truth to stop the enemy in his tracks. Matthew 16:22 says “..Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” that’s what Isaiah 55:8-9 says. Trusting in God and his plans for our life is a great blessing. For He has seen all before and knows the perfect way to bring you through the storm in such a way that you grow stronger and are blessed for being faithful all while glorifying His name. Isaiah 55 tells us we can dream and hope for things in this world but God can provide us with that and much more that we have never even thought of. I encourage you to chase Gods Plan and resist the lies and deception from Satan destroy his plot against you and God and rejoice in the promises and blessings of God.

God’s plan for your life is so big and so powerful that Satan has created a plot against you to kill your faith, steal your hope, and destroy your life and salvation. But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9. Therefore I encourage all to love and seek God with all your heart and refuse to allow Satan’s plot to destroy God’s great plan for your life. What will you choose? God’s Plan of life, love, truth, and blessings or Satan’s Plot of lies, deception, and death?

Pray without ceasing..

Many people often underestimate prayer and tend to worry about day to day struggles and obstacles without first turning to God through prayer. I myself am often guilty of this. We tend to run to our own thought process and solutions based on our worldly view instead of first seeking and asking God how we should handle the situation at hand.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 it says “Pray without ceasing.” pretty simple instruction it seems, but often looked over. It’s simply telling us as believer’s in Jesus that we must pray in all we do, big and small, and Never stop and Never give up.

When facing struggles we should remember what Psalm 55:16-17 says “As for me, I will call upon God. And the Lord shall save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud. And He shall hear my voice”.No where in the bible does it state we wont face struggles, trials, or tribulations in fact it says the exact opposite. However Jesus will provide us the way through these times if we simply call upon Him to guide us and be patient in his timing. Luke 11:9-10 says “So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives and he who seeks finds and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Isn’t that great knowledge to have to know if we just ask Jesus to help us he will provide the answers in all we do. I find great peace in knowing that I can ask God to guide my every step and he will do exactly that knowing his plans are always good.

Romans 12:12 says to be “rejoicing in Hope, patient in tribulation, steadfastly in prayer.” It is very easy in time of struggle to begin feeling like things are never going to change, that you will be stuck in this “rut” forever, but this is simply NOT TRUE. Romans 12 tells us to rejoice in hope (of the Lord and his Promises), to be patient (in his timing) in tribulation and to be steadfastly (continually) in prayer (in all we do).  Though things in life may be tough sometimes you must push through knowing there is HOPE IN JESUS and know at the end of the struggle there will be great reward if you are faithful and hopeful in Him.

Even Jesus cried out in prayer to the Father see John 12:27-28 where Jesus said “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father ‘save me’ from this hour? But for this purpose I come to you this hour. 28. Father, glorify your name.”  This goes to show that no one is exempt from troubles in the world, however we must learn to RUN TO God in prayer NOT AWAY from Him depending on our own worldly knowledge and capabilities. We do not have to be experts on praying there is no “right or wrong” way to pray He just simply asks us as believers to trust in Him and to come to Him and ask in prayer. The bible tells us we do not have to use an abundant amount of words when we pray. In Matthew 6:7-8 it says “And when you pray do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think they will be heard for their many words. 8 Therefore do not be like them. For the Father knows the things you have need of before you ask.” From the small needs to the large needs God knows them all and He wants to help us and wants to bless us but first we must have Faith in Him and ask.

When fighting life’s day to day battles make sure you are equipped with the right warfare for the fight. Prayer. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 ” For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to flesh.4 For the weapons of our warfare are NOT of carnal (of the flesh) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.”  If we trust in Him and His promises then we should choose to run to Him in prayer for all things. Whether we are hurt, broken, angry, happy, sad or any other whirlwind emotion, we as believers need to seek Him and pray in all we do especially in times of darkness. In Psalm 34:17-18 it states “The righteous cry out and the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. 18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart.” Often times when we face time of trouble we feel alone but we are never alone God is always with us watching and waiting for us to call upon His name and cry out for help so that he may rescue us.

Pray and seek God in all you do and watch the transformation in your life. Believe in Christ Jesus and you too will see the ways of the Lord and the blessings He has in store for you Remember His plans are always good and God can NOT lie he WILL keep his promises. I encourage you to Pray without ceasing especially when its hardest to pray at all.
